Dr. Yunlong Huo win prizes in the 15th PKU Teaching Contest for Young Teachers

In December 2015, two teachers from the College of Engineering (COE) participated in the 15th Peking University Teaching Contest for Young Teachers and both received awards. Assistant Professor Xi Zhang presented as one of the young teacher judges.

In the Session of Science and Technology, associate professor Xiaojie Duan from Biomedical Engineering Department demonstrated her course “Biological Material Analysis Methods / Raman Scattering Spectroscopy” and won 2nd prize, while associate professor Yunlong Huo from Department of Mechanics and Engineering Sciences won 3rd prize with his course “Biomechanics / Brief Introduction to Biomechanics”.

The Teaching Contest for PKU Young Teachers has been an annual event since 2000, having had participants of over 900 in total. It aims to provide an opportunity for PKU young teachers to present teaching skills and exchange ideas on education.

This year’s contest is jointly organized by the PKU Labor Union, Office of Teaching Affairs, Office of Human Resources, Graduate School, the Center for Teaching Skills and the Provost’s Office. 28 young teachers from 17 colleges, departments, institutes and centers participated in the event. The judging panel was made up of renowned professors, student judges and young teacher judges.

Over the years, the Labor Union of College of Engineering has always encouraged young teachers to participate in the contest. They arranged rehearsals for the contestants and asked teachers with rich teaching experiences to give advice of improvement, in order to help the teachers achieve better results.

In the past years, many COE teachers have won the first, second and third prizes. Among them, the first prize winners included Associate Professor Xun Huang (the 10th contest). The second prize winners included Associate Professor Guoxin Cao (the 11th contest) , Assistant Professor Chao Zhou and Associate Professor Ruqiang Zou (the 12th contest), Assistant Professor Haifeng Yu (the 13th contest) , and Assistant Professor Jie Song and Changhui Li (the 14th contest).
